Summer 2010 Youth Getaways Program Descriptions
Tuesday, July 13 – Skimboarding & Marine Day at Witty’s Lagoon Regional Park (Barcode: 31712)
Prepare for a day of skimboarding and marine exploration at Witty’s Lagoon Regional Park in Metchosin. The CRD is hosting its annual Marine Day and scuba divers will bring up sea creatures from the deep water for viewing and touching…if you are brave enough. Later we will work on our skimboarding skills.
Tuesday, July 20 – Street Art Cutouts (Barcode: 33146)
Join two Victoria street artists, Peter and Ian, as they show you how to take your name to the next level with street art “Cutouts”. The day will begin with a tour of urban street art throughout Victoria. After arriving back at the centre, students will get the opportunity practice different lettering styles. Once students have found their “style”, they will paint their name on a piece of wood with acrylic paint, and also have the option of having one of the instructors help with a light airbrush finish. The instructors will then cut out finished pieces to create 3 dimensional lettering pieces. Then we’ll head out and take pictures of their newly created art in different environments.
Tuesday, July 27 – Wildplay Element Park & Juan Da Fuca Swimming (Barcode: 33147)
Pile into the Youth Getaways bus as we head to Wildplay Element Park for a morning of ziplines, swinging bridges and climbing ladder fun! After our Wildplay adventure, we are off to Thetis Lake for lunch. We will finish the afternoon with a swim at the amazing Juan da Fuca pool.
Tuesday, August 3 – Prospect Lake Golf Day (Barcode: 33148)
Golf anyone? We are heading to Prospect Lake Golf Course for a day of golfing fun. No more mini golf…this is the real thing! When we arrive we will get fitted with our clubs and get a mini lesson from the golf pro. Then the group will get to play 3 full golf holes from the tee box to the green. After golf we have lunch at the course a kid’s combo…a hot dog, chips, and a drink! All the equipment will be provided and each participant will get a souvenir logo golf ball to take home.
Tuesday, August 10 – Gymnastics and Gladiator Day (Barcode:33149)
Get ready for a day of physical fun. Get in touch with your inner “Canadian Gladiator”! Participants will start by designing their own gladiator t-shirt. Then we are off to Victoria Gymnastics for a one hour gymnastic class where the group will get to hit the foam pits, reach new heights on the trampoline and much, much more. We will return to the centre for lunch and then it is gladiator time. Participants will enjoy challenge themselves is several gladiator type games.
Tuesday, August 17 – Metchosin Adventure Wilderness Camp (Barcode: 33150)
Did you know that Metchosin Adventure Wilderness Camp has 98 acres of forest, ponds, trails, and meadows? And guess what…we are going there! We will be climbing the 10m climbing tower and trying out the low ropes course designed for individual challenges and building teamwork skills. Afterwards we will head the pond to cool off in the hot sun.
Tuesday, August 24 – Sooke Potholes, Geocaching & BBQ (Barcode: 33151)
Sooke Potholes here we come! Once we arrive at the potholes we will spend the morning hiking and geocaching. For lunch we are bringing the BBQ so we will provide a hot dog lunch. After we have refueled we will finish the day with a dip pools before we head home.
Tuesday, August 31 – Horseback Riding ( Barcode: 33152)
This is the last Youth Getaway of the summer and we are going horseback riding. We will drive to Alpine Stables in Cobble Hill were each participant will get a 30 minute riding lesson in the riding ring and a 30 minute trail ride. While one group is riding the other group will be learning how to groom and care for the horses. Before heading home the kids will get to play on the merry go round and tire swing on the farm. Don’t miss out on this amazing experience.
