Get Involved

At present, the FGCA Board of Directors is full. Our AGM is held in April and all members are eligable to stand. The Nominating Committee makes recommendations, and the
President will invite people to join the proposed slate. Nominations may
also come from the floor at the AGM.

The Board will meet at least nine times each year (normally monthly except
for August) for two hours, and Board members are encouraged to take on
other tasks on behalf of the Board and Association. These extra tasks may
mean additional meetings each month, and/or significant email traffic.

Some areas for which we need assistance include:

Heritage. Heritage is a very important area for the FGCA. We need someone
to keep an eye on this issue at City Council.

Commercial kitchen. We operate a community commercial kitchen. It is the
one physical area at the Place not fully booked. We have received comments
that it is not a "real" commercial kitchen. We need someone who undertands Commercial
Kitchen issues.

Government fund raising or government affairs. We are going to have to deal
with the ageing building, and could use someone with serious senior
experience in provincial or federal affairs to help us here.

Urban forest. Cook St. Village is the focus of the P&Z committee, and the
trees are getting old. What is the CSV without the trees?

Specific environmental issues, such as the sewage issue and the
likelihood of disruption at Clover Point, and all that will entail. We
would like to have someone keep up to date on this issue.

If you are interested in joining the Board or serving on our committees, please email Blair Humphrey, Nomination Chair, at president@fairfieldcommunity.ca or call him at 250 385-8888.
